Save the date! SERAFIN Workshop | 2nd Symposium on ENEA ReseArch For Innovative Nuclear application

Within the Italian framework the debate on nuclear technology for energy sustainability as possible solution to improve the energy transition and reach the Net Zero emission within 2050 restart. In this framework, the ENEA and, in particular, the Nuclear Energy System Division (NUC-ENER) reaffirms its leadership in nuclear research and innovation.

The NUC-ENER Division, develops cutting-edge expertise in design, analysis, and technological development of nuclear systems for energy applications, considering both fission and fusion. Supporting institutions, industry, and society, the Division works on safety, sustainability, and design of next-generation reactors, including Light Water Small Modular Reactors (LW-SMRs) and IV Generation technology, while driving technology transfer and engaging in national and international networks.

The 2nd NUC-ENER Workshop, named Symposium on ENEA ReseArch For Innovative Nuclear application (SERAFIN), organized with the support of the University of Bologna, aims to improve the internal collaboration and showcase ENEA’s research excellence. The event features four thematic sessions:

  1. Safety and Risk Assessment in Nuclear Installations;
  2. Innovative Design and Modelling of Nuclear Systems;
  3. Advanced Technologies for Future Nuclear Applications;
  4. Experimental Campaigns and Facility Updates;

and two round tables:

  • Severe Accident Analysis for Advanced Reactors: Safety-by-Design, Mitigation Strategies, and Regulatory Challenges;
  • Experimental Data for Innovative Nuclear Reactors.

A unique opportunity for researchers, professors, PhD candidates, and students to explore advanced nuclear frontiers and contribute to Italy’s energy future.

Venue: Aula Magna Enrico Mattei, Faculty of Engineering, Viale del Risorgimento 2, 40136 Bologna (BO) – Italy

L’evento prevede quattro sessioni tematiche:

  1. Sicurezza e valutazione dei rischi negli impianti nucleari;
  2. Progettazione e modellazione innovativa di sistemi nucleari;
  3. Tecnologie avanzate per le future applicazioni nucleari;
  4. Campagne sperimentali e aggiornamenti degli impianti;

e due tavole rotonde:

  • Analisi di incidenti severi in reattori avanzati: Concetto di “Sicurezza da progetto”, strategie di mitigazione e sfide normative;

L'evento avrà luogo presso l'Aula Magna Enrico Mattei, Faculty of Engineering, Viale del Risorgimento 2, 40136 Bologna (BO)
